DEFICIENCIES

More:

The German diet contains high levels of starches and meats. What this means is that they lack the nutritional value found in fruits and vegetables. While they do enjoy their share of cabbage and sauerkraut, it is clear that meat is the staple of their diet. Although meat contains high levels of protein, it doesn't carry the nutrients Germans need that are found in vegetables.

In 1998 a study was done in Germany which examined the low levels of Vitamin D found in their diets.

Typical diseases that can be caused from a Vitamin D deficiency include...

  • Diabetes
  • Mellitus
  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Lung, breast, and colon cancer

Treatment
  • Exposure to sunlight is the fastest way to raise Vitamin D levels, but there are also ways that involve food
    • Milk
    • Eggs
    • Fish
  • Oral contraceptives and hormone therapy medications can increase levels of vitamin D, a common remedy in Western medicine
  • Modern research has provided evidence of low Vitamin D levels being a major source of certain cancers, strokes, and bone fractures
